Controlled, slow driving – the reduction gear unit

Modern vans are often equipped with long transmission ratios for reasons of cost efficiency. This means that the overall drive-train transmission ratio is less than ideal for some operating conditions (manoeuvring, etc.).

The reduction gear from Oberaigner, available in two versions (R = 1.432 or R = 2.85) represents a temporarily selectable gear stage that permits a very low speed of travel. It therefore serves to avoid damage to the clutch, especially in vans with ‘long’ axis ratios or high gross combination weights. The vehicle can then be moved much more slowly and safely in exceptional driving conditions.

Areas of application

  • Driving with a trailer

  • Mountain journeys

  • Manoeuvring

  • Operation with high gross combination weight
